We exist to display God's glory, declare God's truth, delight in God's Son, and disciple God's people

Stephen Savas

Education and Career

I have a bachelor’s degree in English from Hillsdale College. I formerly taught primary and secondary school grade-levels overseas/stateside.

Family

I have a wife, Leah. She makes me laugh and encourages me in the vocation and call God has given to me.

Favorite Verses

Some of them include the following:

Colossians 1:9-10

For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.

Colossians 2:4

I say this so that no one will delude you with persuasive argument.

1 Peter 5:6

Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time.

Hobbies

I enjoy hiking, listening to indie-folk/Americana music, and looking at non-Latin alphabets and words.

Favorite Books

A book I’d like to return to regularly is Show Me Your Glory by Steve Lawson, a book on the attributes of God. I have benefited much from Robert Duncan Culver’s Systematic Theology and Macarthur and Mayhue’s Biblical Doctrine. In the genre of poetry, I have appreciated the collections of George Herbert and Edward Taylor. Outside the realm of theology, I really enjoyed reading the story Johnny Tremain to a class of fourth-graders, and I enjoy listening to history books on audio.

A word about Maranatha Bible Church

Maranatha Bible Church has been a wonderful place of growth in Christ since beginning seminary training here. The congregation has welcomed us with warmth and care. I see the gospel, the message of Christ’s death for sins and resurrection, at work in the midst of the life of this church body.
