We exist to display God's glory, declare God's truth, delight in God's Son, and disciple God's people

Session 2 – Unconditional Election

Who Chose Whom?

There are three answers:
–       Man freely chose God
–       God chose those He sees who will have faith
.     These two options gives man freedom of choice.  They are attempting to protect God from the
.    .     accusation that He is unfair.
–       God sovereignly chooses who He will save

Is not specifically taught in scripture, but there are many examples of election
.     1.  Israel – (Romans 9), Deuteronomy 7:6-8
.     2.  Prophets – Numbers 16:1-7, Jeremiah 1:9-10
.     3.  Priests – Deuteronomy 21:5, 18:15; 1 Chronicles 15:2
.     4.  Kings – 1 Samuel 9:15-17, 15:10-11, 28; 16:12-13
.     5.  Apostles – John 15:14, 1 Corinthians 1:1
.     6.  Spiritual Gifts – 1 Corinthians 12:11
The Doctrine of Election – What you believe doesn’t matter?
–     The extent of the impact of depravity in man
–     The freedom of the bondage of the human will
–     The sovereignty of God
–     The nature of grace, mercy & justice in God
Conditional Election – Human merit in salvation
–    –     What does it mean that God ‘foreknew” in Romans 8:28-29
–    –    –     1.  God foreknows people (“whom”), not facts
    –    –      2.  Foreknowledge speaks of relationship – 2 Timothy 2:19
    –    –      3.  Facts are not predestined, called, justified, etc.

Unconditional Election
    –    –   John 6:37-40, 44, Acts 13:48, Romans 11:5-7, Ephesians 1:4-5, 1 Thessalonians 5:9-10,
    –    –             2 Thessalonians 2:13
How should this doctrine practically affect me?
    –    Theology should drive doxology

    –    Theology should drive doxology
    –    –      –  It should humble us
    –    –      –  It should increase our love for God
    –    –      –  It should propel our worship
    –    –      –  It should drive us to evangelize
